Hey everyone,
Today we did a lot. Again! We began the day by having breakfast, and then heading out at 8AM to the desert. Forgive me, I forgot the wire I need to transfer the pics to the computer! But we were actually looking out over the "wilderness" Jesus was in for forty days! It is a tough, rough place I would not want to even spend one day.
We Celebrated The Holy Eucharist overlooking the wilderness. Which really is just a desert. We could see temptation mountain in the distance. This is held to be the site Satan tempted Jesus. WOW!
After that we went on a very long ride to Masada. If you do not know the story of Masada look it up because it is too long to type!
Masada was one of Herod The Great's palaces - the ruins are on top of a mountain. My name tag blew off my shirt and down the mountain. Ah well.
After that we went to Qumran. This is where the dead sea scrolls were found. WOW again. We saw the caves (from a distance) the scrolls were discovered. We also got to view an excavated site the Jewish sect lived in who owned the scrolls.
From there we went to the Dead Sea! I floated, Kate would be proud! Heater, the warden of the college, bet 10,000 sheckels to anyone who could swim. I did! She owes me money. I will bring it up with her later. Being in the Dead Sea is indescribable. If you want to know what it is like - you have to go to Israel! When you get out your skin feels oily.
It has been an amazing day. I am off to shower. Love you all
Chris
