Hey everyone,
It is almost 2PM here in Jerusalem. 7AM your time! We have completed our official day today. The rest of today is free time for us to do what ever we want.
We started today going to the Mount of Olives! We began our walk down into the garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed, sweated blood, and was betrayed by Judas. From the top of the mountain you can see the gate Jesus entered from on Palm Sunday. You can also see where Ciaphas' house, where Jesus was tried by the Jews, you can also see the upper room, which is the location of the last supper. In that landscape you can almost imagine all of it transpiring right in front of you. It was awesome.
The church located in the garden was very cool. It was incredibly dark. The mood in the church is meant to be meditative and sad almost. We also saw the site of Mary's tomb, where most of the eastern churches believe Mary was assumed into Heaven. Take that Father Marsden! Mary's tomb was incredible the icons in there were magnificent.
Pat Firzgerald, Father Fred, and I are all going to go to the old city now and explore. I hope I can keep up with Father Fred - he walks like a jack rabbit runs!
More tonight!
