A big day in the Holy Land.

When we don't hear from the guys, I will try to fill you in on what they did today. I am going with the adage: No news is good news :) Also, just so you know, there is a 7 hour time difference, which makes it difficult to find the right time to call home. It is 4:40 in the afternoon here, so it is 11:40 pm there - they are probably out cold from travel and a busy day!

They had introductions, a group photo and a lecture this morning. Then they took a tour around the area, ending at a beautiful Abbey high on a hill overlooking the old city of Jerusalem. Most surprising to me was the drink machine as you walk in the door stocked with beer! I have posted some pics above of the Abbey and the view from the rooftop. What will amaze the men is how contained Jerusalem is. You can see most of the old city from this vantage point.

They also have a visit to the Western Wall (formerly known as the Wailing Wall) on their agenda. This is a common site for Bar Mitzvahs. It is Men Only at most of the wall and the women can go to a smaller portion of the wall. Security is tight because of this being such a Holy site for the Jewish people. Mothers, sisters and aunts, hang over the wall and take pictures of their son going through this important passage to adulthood.

The young man above is Ben who Jay was delighted to see back at St. George's. He is a witty young Englishman that is a lot of fun. He was heading back to England last year as his Visa had expired. This beautiful wood carving is of the Holy Mother and Jesus. He bought it on our travles with him and he LOVED it so much, we kidded him that with his statue - the three of them made of the Holy Family :)

Tomorrow - Masada!!
